A reflection on the colorful, oversaturated, and playful aesthetic of scientific diagrams. Google search as a mode of investigation: typing questions about enzymes, trying to understand what is catalyzing and what is inhibiting. The experience of detachment from bodily knowledge, and the (Bel’s personal) reliance on internet searches / machine engines to attempt to diminish the alienation.
Simple, childlike shapes and arrows in scientific diagrams cartoon and clown the body. How does embodiment of these shapes and diagrams shift the clowning? Two costumes and two soft sculpture works emerged from this question, activated by two performers in soft, fresh snow.
