A welcome into the world of decomposing organisms. Five creatures (Mycelium, Bacillus Bacteria, Mycorrhizal Fungi, Mold Rhizoids, Vibrios Bacteria) took the stage (a field in Kalamazoo, Michigan) accompanied by improvised sounds from five musicians. They moved and played to the beat of their bodies and took direction from conversations Bel had with people surrounding decay, stillness, grief, and loss.
The sculptural costumes emerged from discarded scraps of fabric and material including nylon, cotton, foam, plastic, wax, aluminum, and wood.
It’s going to be very painful and choppy and cyclical.
I can feel things ending and I don’t like it.
Why don’t we view aging as decomposition?
But that’s the thing we are all qualified to care for one another.
It’s a collaborative process by definition because you don’t decompose by yourself.
