Bel McLaughlin moves between durational performance, abstract tattooing, creaturely costuming, and improvised instrumentation. They communicate in languages of hyper saturation, micro-biological metaphors, and musical theater dramatics to reflect a non-binary imaginary rooted in collectivity and contradiction. They are transfixed by micro and macro exchanges: exchanges within, on, and between human and non-humans that reveal strategies and tools for reciprocity, redistribution, and reparations. Bel currently resides in Rotterdam, Netherlands, researching and performing within the Dutch Arts Roaming Institute. They studied sculpture and fine arts at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, researched political and social movements at Pontificia Universidade Católica in São Paulo, and practiced arts administration and assistance through Wesleyan University in New York City.
